Environmental Policy

Reducing our environmental impact through practical, proportionate action

1. Introduction

2. Purpose and scope

  • our studio operations;

  • remote working and business travel;

  • digital production and file management;

  • print, production and physical materials procured for client projects;

  • suppliers, freelancers and contractors working with or for EEW Design; and

  • day-to-day decisions that affect energy use, waste, transport and procurement.

3. Our environmental commitments

  • comply with applicable environmental laws and regulations;

  • reduce waste and avoid unnecessary use of materials;

  • use energy and resources efficiently;

  • reduce avoidable travel and transport emissions;

  • consider lower-impact print and production choices where feasible;

  • work with suppliers who take environmental responsibilities seriously; and

  • review and improve our approach over time.

4. Practical operational commitments

  • using remote meetings by default where appropriate to reduce unnecessary travel;

  • using digital proofing and electronic approval workflows wherever suitable;

  • recommending FSC, recycled or responsibly sourced paper stocks where print is required and suitable for the project;

  • considering print quantities carefully to reduce avoidable waste;

  • considering supplier environmental credentials when selecting relevant printers, production partners and specialist suppliers;

  • using renewable electricity where available and practical;

  • reducing unnecessary equipment, packaging and production waste;

  • preferring low-carbon travel options where travel is necessary and practical;

  • maintaining a simple environmental log or review record where required for contract or tender monitoring; and

  • reviewing environmental practices periodically.

5. Energy and resource use

  • using remote and digital working tools where appropriate;

  • switching off equipment when not in use;

  • using energy-efficient devices and lighting where feasible;

  • minimising unnecessary printing and physical proofs;

  • storing files efficiently and deleting unnecessary duplicates where appropriate; and

  • using renewable or lower-carbon energy options where available and practical.

6. Waste reduction and recycling

  • prioritising digital workflows and approvals where suitable;

  • avoiding unnecessary printed materials;

  • reusing packaging and office materials where practical;

  • recycling paper, card, packaging and electronic waste through appropriate channels; and

  • encouraging clients to consider print quantities carefully to avoid overproduction.

7. Sustainable procurement

  • recycled or FSC-certified paper stocks where available;

  • vegetable-based inks or lower-impact production methods where offered by printers;

  • print suppliers with credible environmental credentials;

  • local suppliers where this reduces transport impact without compromising quality; and

  • digital alternatives where physical production is not necessary.

8. Print and production projects

  • discuss sustainable stock, finish and production options with clients;

  • avoid unnecessary proofs, samples and courier journeys;

  • recommend realistic print quantities;

  • consider recyclable or lower-impact materials; and

  • encourage responsible disposal or recycling of materials at end of life.

9. Travel and meetings

  • using video calls and remote collaboration tools where appropriate;

  • combining meetings or site visits where possible;

  • using public transport where practical; and

  • considering lower-emission travel options where feasible.

10. Biodiversity and local environment

  • avoid activities that knowingly harm local habitats;

  • support responsible suppliers and production methods;

  • reduce waste and pollution risk; and

  • consider biodiversity impacts where physical production, packaging or events are involved.

11. Responsibilities

  • use resources responsibly;

  • avoid unnecessary waste;

  • follow agreed environmental practices; and

  • raise suggestions for practical improvements.
