Design Process
Our design process is intended to be straightforward, yet as flexible as possible. Although every project is different, the below process has been tried, tested and fine tuned through experience and continues to prove extremely successful, by both client and designer alike.
BRIEFING
At the start of your project we'll begin by becoming more familiar about your company and the services you offer. You can brief us online through our feedback form or via email, but we'll also need to speak to you before we begin. This ensures we have a good understanding of your requirements.
We'll also need to collect the material that will be used as content. This usually includes text, images and your logo and/or brand assets. We'd prefer to receive this electronically (especially the text) and you'll be able to email this directly to us, upload via your own secure client area, or simply post on a CD if necessary and the time allows for it.
We offer basic assistance with text as part of our service, but if you require a more complete copywriting service please contact us.
If you don't yet have a logo, we could offer to create it for you. Have a look at our branding section for more information.
We include professional stock imagery within our fees, which we source from a range of libraries, including our own eew! Image library. This gives us access to millions of images and we can pretty much always find something suitable for any requirement. You're also welcome to supply your own images.
It's not a problem if you don't have all of the content from the start of the project. Changes to text and imagery can be made throughout the project, however it is always more helpful to have as much as possible at the beginning of the project.
FIRST DRAFT
At this point we'll agree a breakdown of the pages to suit the content. Once you're happy with this, we'll get started on the first drafts. This will involve any further research we feel necessary and the preparation of the first design concepts.
This will usually take five working days or less to complete. Although we believe that our clients don't pay us for rushed work, we won't keep you waiting any longer than necessary.
These, along with all further drafts, will be sent to you in Adobe PDF format by email.
FEEDBACK
Once you've received the initial drafts, we need to know what you think. You're welcome to take as long as you need to consider them.
We ask that your feedback be as specific as possible to help us understand what it was about each concept that did or did not appeal to you.
When you're ready, you can return your feedback to us by email, or if you prefer you can call and discuss your thoughts with the designers working on your project.
REDRAFTS AND REVISIONS
Once we receive your feedback our designers will continue work on the project, making changes as requested or creating new designs with your comments in mind. Whether the initial drafts are close but require further development, are not what you were looking for or if you'd just like to try something different, our designers will listen to your feedback and present further options.
These subsequent drafts are then sent as before for your further consideration. Most sets of revisions take less than two days to prepare.
This process of drafting and feedback then repeats as necessary, with your comments from each set of drafts used to develop the next. At each stage the drafts will inevitably draw closer to your requirements, until you approve the final versions.
Typically the entire process takes less than two weeks from start to finish, however this is only an average – we impose no maximum timescale with any of our services. It may also be possible to speed up the process to meet an urgent deadline, although this may incur additional fees which would be agreed prior to commencing work.
FINALISING
Once you have approved your final design, the artwork is prepared in three sets and sent via email for immediate use.
These sets include:
| Original artwork: |
Copies of the original artwork in InDesign®, Quark®, or Illustrator® formats. |
|
Print ready: |
High-resolution PDF files with printers marks and colour information, set up for commercial print. |
|
Preview / Email: |
Standard PDF files without printers marks, reduced in file size for preview, email and download purposes. |
We also supply technical information such as fonts and colour references used in the designs.
With the project concluded, you are ready to begin distributing the artwork to suppliers as required. We can arrange print quotations if necessary – please ask for details.
AFTER CARE
Although your project may be complete, our obligation to you is not quite finished yet. With each project we tend to get in touch and find out how working with us turned out for you – if our service met your standards and if our design(s) were to you expectations. At this stage we expect you to open and honest with us, so that if anything was to your disatisfaction we could address it and avoid a repeat in future, or if feedback is positive, we could put it in our testimonial section for all to see.
